MODELIO SA
Data, business processes and architecture modeling
UML and BPMN support
Integrated requirement analysis, and documentation generation
Key features
Increase efficiency and minimize risk for analysts working on modeling data, business processes and architectures.
UML and BPMN support
Modelio SA carefully supports the "metamodels" defined by the OMG (Object Management Group) UML and BPMN standards
- providing analysts with all the standard diagrams
- enabling them to harness the full power of both languages to express ideas.
Models can be exchanged using the standard XMI format.
By combining UML and BPMN, Modelio SA makes it easy to model a complete business, with smooth transition between data and processes.
Example
Dragging & dropping a UML class into a process diagram will retrieve a related BPMN data object, while a BPMN lane can represent a UML actor and BPMN processes can be structured within UML packages.
Models versus diagrams
Diagrams are only partial views of the complete design, used to describe a particular aspect of the architecture. Models, on the other hand, are complete sets of concepts and elements used to describe the architecture.
Modelio SA maintains consistency between model elements and diagrams, providing several explorer windows to simplify navigation. With both model element explorers and a diagram explorer, users have broad and practical access to the model.
Consistency checks and modeling wizards
More than 280 consistency checks are constantly applied to a model as it is being built. Analysts can adapt, add or withdraw existing rules, or change the gravity of errors. Smart modeling wizards boost modeling productivity and provide good default solutions to common problems.
Consistency checks:
- are done in real time
- are configurable
- ensure consistency between diagrams, documents, matrices, tables...
Project documentation
Models are used as a means of communication. For that reason, Modelio SA can automatically generate documents from models.
Depending on the document target (requirement analysis, business process definition, design, use cases, class diagrams, ...), it is possible to:
- choose one of the numerous document templates provided,
- develop custom templates specific to your context.
The documents can be generated in the following formats: HTML, MS Word, Powerpoint and LibreOffice.
Integrated documentation capture
Modelio's support of rich text editing means that you can document any model element or diagram using your favorite editor (MS-Word, LibreOffice, ...), which is integrated with Modelio.
This feature provides you with a unique means of combining models and documentation to support your analysis work.
Traceability and impact analysis
Modelio SA's broad coverage of different modeling stages means that it is able to support many modeling levels, targeting different stakeholders.
Audit your models with generalized traceability:
- Graphic editing
- Matrices
- Reporting
Traceability enables analysts to specify which information has been used to define new model elements. This makes it easier to understand modeling coverage, and understand why models have been created by other people.
Impact analysis can help to determine the cost of changes if part of a model is modified. This mechanism helps discover the value of a model element, by clearly identifying which and how many model elements are based on it.
Models and services customization
Modelio SA offers a modeling solution. However, many companies have their own enterprise architecture framework and need to adapt their use of standards.
Modelio is fully extensible and customizable, and architects can adapt the modeling language and its support to their needs:
- change the supported modeling extensions,
- add new model elements,
- define or remove diagram types,
- add consistency checks,
- generate specific documentation,
- implement specific modeling wizards ...
